Twitter Reacts To The Death Of Mexican Wrestler Perro Aguayo Jr
The 35-year-old wrestler was pronounced dead early Saturday at a Tijuana hospital after a match involving former WWE superstar Rey Mysterio.
Mexican wrestler Perro Aguayo Jr. died early Saturday after suffering a “cervical spine trauma” during a match in Tijuana, Mexico, according to the website Wrestling Observer.
#RIPPerro He was 1 of the best in Lucha Libre. I’ve seen him wrestle a few times & he was amazing! God Rest his soul!
Aguayo Jr. was the son of Mexican wrestling legend Perro Aguayo.
He had a pro-wrestling career that spanned 20 years and was considered one of the most popular sports stars in Mexico, performing for Mexican wrestling companies like AAA and CMLL.
On Friday night, Aguayo Jr. was teaming with TNA superstar Manik (TJ Perkins) in a match against Extreme Tiger and former WWE superstar Rey Mysterio at a wrestling event for AAA.
The incident occurred when Rey Mysterio delivered a low drop kick to Aguayo Jr., causing him to hit the ropes improperly.

The move by Mysterio is how the wrestler routinely sets up his opponents before performing his “619” finisher.
According to wrestling reporter Dave Meltzer with the Wrestling Observer website, “Sources who were at Hospital del Prado in Tijuana have said that the initial cause of death was cervical spine trauma coming from when the ropes snapped his neck.”
TJ Perkins (Manik), Aguayo Jr.’s tag team partner in the match, responded on Twitter:
Life goes so fast man. I can’t believe some of us pack our bags and don’t make it home.
Rey Mysterio also shared his grief on Twitter.
Apenas se formaba una amistad de hermanos que empeso años atras y no deberiamos cuestionar los designios de Dios.
“We barely formed a brotherhood that started many years ago and we shouldn’t question God’s plans.”
Pero en esta ocacion me pregunto porque y no lo entiendo, te extrañare y te llevare conmigo el resto de mi vida, descansa en Paz HijoDelPerro
“But in this occasion, I ask myself why and I don’t understand. I’ll miss you and you’ll be with me for the rest of my life. Rest in peace, Hijo de Perro Aguayo.”
Many in the wrestling world have taken also to Twitter to express their condolences:
