“Grab it, snagged it and I was just ecstatic. I was like, ‘I couldn’t believe that just happened,’” he said.
Capko’s wife Alyssa said she was a little freaked out though.
“I’ve never caught a foul ball in all the years I’ve been going to Phillies games and I said, ‘This is the first time we’re going to catch a foul ball and it’s going to hit my son right in the head,’” she told 6ABC.
But then, the family got another surprise.
They were able to get their ball signed by former Phillies third baseman and Hall of Fame player Mike Schmidt, who complimented Capko on his catch.
“No Mother’s Day will ever top the first Mother’s Day we’ve had,” Alyssa Capko said.
