A Little Girl Born Without Feet Just Got A Puppy Born Without A Paw
“He’s just like me.”
Three-year-old Sapphyre Johnson, who was born without feet, has just received a very special present: a puppy who was born without a paw.
Sapphyre was born missing fingers and toes due to a birth defect, GreenvilleOnline reported.
The little girl and her family live in Tennessee, but she has been a patient at Shriner’s Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina, since she was an infant.
Recently, a local breeder named Karen Riddle contacted the hospital, GreenvilleOnline reported.
She asked if there was anyone who may want a special white German Shepard puppy who had just been born missing a paw. She had named the puppy Lt. Dan, after the character in Forrest Gump.

Hospital employee Elaine Hardin then set out to find a perfect owner for Lt. Dan, the local Fox affiliate reported.
Hardin told GreenvilleOnline as soon as she showed the puppy’s picture to Sapphyre, the girl’s eyes lit up.
“…She said, ‘That’s my puppy. He’s just like me,’” Hardin said. “He’s a special dog and he’s going to a special child.”
Hardin hopes that having a puppy like Lt. Dan will help Sapphyre explain to other kids about her disability.
“A lot of kids don’t see other children or animals that have issues like they have,” Sapphyre’s dad, Matthew Johnson, said.
He added, “This was a really nice thing…and a really good thing for Sapphyre.”
