8 Stages Of Realizing Your Dog Forgot Mother's Day
Let me tell you: it hurts, it hurts real bad.
Yeah, she’s never remembered before but THIS IS YOUR YEAR. THIS IS THE YEAR YOUR DOG CELEBRATES YOUR MOTHERHOOD.
You walk in the door and THERE SHE IS. THERE SHE IS WAITING TO CELEBRATE YOU ON MOTHER’S DAY!
She doesn’t know what you’re talking about.
The smiles are gone and she just wants to go for a walk.
This brings on the next stage: Disappointment.
Where did you go wrong? Does she not love you?
Maybe she’s surprising you! Maybe her walk is where the surprise is!!!!!!
…this does not pan out well…
Flowers? Not for you. Not from her. Not today.
Next up: Frustration.
This leads you to tell your dog she hurt your feelings. She is concerned but overall confused.
Lying to Friends
At this stage, you might say things like: “Yes, my dog got me SO many presents for Mother’s Day” , “Look at this nice treat she got me! HAHAHA I DIDN’T BUY IT, SHE DID.”, “No, I’m not crying, this is the beautiful gift my daughter dog gave me, okay?!”
At this point, your dog watches you make a fool of yourself with shame.
Have you expected too much? Does your dog not regard herself as your child? Does she not even know the date at all?!
Your dog will get confused, this confusion (which you will inevitably read as worry) will lead you to the next step:
You’re not crazy. She’s your pride and joy, your flesh and blood, your number one! You know she loves you and this is a very reasonable expectation.
Yeah, she forgot Mother’s Day AGAIN but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t love you! It doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to cuddle. Plus, at the end of the day, you’re best friends and that’s really all that matters.*
*Hadley, if you are reading this, this is a plea to not forget next year. I need this too much.
